The country of India occupies the greater part of South Asia. It’s capital is New Delhi. India has roughly 1/6 of the world’s population with over 1.3 billion people, and is the second most populous country in the world after China. In terms of income and gross national product per person, India is one of the poorest countries on Earth. The World Bank estimates that 60% of the population (over 800 million people) are living on less than $3.10 US per day. Many of the citizens in India struggle to find work and earn enough money to provide for their family. There are many significant physical needs among the Indian people. One of the most significant needs is water, as UNICEF estimates that less than 50% of the population has access to safe drinking water.
There are many needs spiritually as well. The primary religion in India is Hinduism, representing over 80% of the population. The Joshua Project estimates that only 2% of the population are followers of Jesus. In the two Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar where we are currently focusing our work, there are over 360 million people and 0.1% of them profess faith in Christ. So not only do you have significant physical needs in India, but spiritually as well.
We at Quenched are looking to change this. We exist to bring clean water and the gospel to unreached peoples, those who have never heard of Jesus. We partner with local pastors who identify needs for clean water and have the well drilled and installed. Then at a well dedication ceremony they share the Living Water of Jesus and begin to build relationships with the community.
