3,000 wells of Life and Hope

Well Report:

Masanipada, Odisha

Well #3,000

Completed: June 20, 2025

Depth: 180 ft

Maintained by: Village's Pastor

The village of Masanipada falls under Baliguda town. It is a slum area and an unrecognized colony with a population of over 200 people.  Because it is unauthorized, the government has not provided any basic facilities like water, sanitation, or other essential services.

The residents rely on a single dugwell, located about one and a half kilometers away, for all their needs: bathing, drinking, washing, and more. But this dugwell is in a secluded jungle. The road leading to it is muddy and slippery. Going to the well at night is risky, not only for women, but also for men.

During summer, the well water develops a bad odor and becomes difficult to use. Yet the slum dwellers have no other option. Some wealthy, high caste people nearby have dug private borewells, but they do not allow the people of Masanipada to draw water from them.

Even within the slum, water access causes frequent tension. Although there are separate wells for males and females, there is often fighting and discord. Women of other faiths do not even touch Christian women.

In this difficult situation, the village's Pastor contacted Pastor Jitendra Nayak. After following due process and receiving approval, a borewell was drilled on May 27, 2025, and dedicated on June 20, 2025.

Now, the water problem for this slum is solved. The people are happy and grateful to Quenched for extending a helping hand to them.

Pastor's Testimony:

“As a pastor at the local church, I had spoken to and requested many government officials and social organizations to provide borewells in the village. But all the requests fell on deaf ears.

When I approached a political leader for help, she outright refused, saying, ‘This government is of a different political party and they do not listen to me.’

Meanwhile, I happened to contact Pastor Jitendra Nayak. After the evaluation, a borewell was drilled and dedicated for the community’s use.

I believe God has provided us this well as a ministry tool. It will help me share the Good News of Christ with many people living in the slum and also the college students who stay here on a rental basis.

I, along with my village, am thankful to Quenched for providing this borewell. Your care, love, and concern for the villagers during their time of need for safe drinking water is nothing short of a God-sent miracle.

Once again, thank you.”
