Well Installation for a Sukumbasi Community
“Sukumbasi” refers to landless families who live without
legal ownership of land and often lack access to basic
services like clean water, sanitation, and electricity. As a
result, they rely on unsafe and temporary solutions for
daily needs.
-Before this project, the community depended on an open, contaminated well, leading to illnesses such as diarrhea and stomach infections. With no access to public water and no permission to use nearby private sources, families had no choice but to use unsafe water.
-A new well was installed to provide a safe and reliable water source. It was properly constructed, covered to prevent contamination, and placed in an accessible location, with community involvement for ongoing care.
-More than 100 people now have access to clean drinking water. Health and hygiene have improved, and families save time and energy. The project has also restored dignity and brought hope to the community.
-This well has transformed daily life for over 100 people by meeting a critical need. Ongoing care and support will help ensure lasting impact.

MEET THE RECIPIENTS
A new water tap has been installed in Sombare
village in the Udaypur district. This community is
made up primarily of Rai, Shrestha, and Magar
families, most of whom face financial hardship and
rely on farming and daily wage labor.
Before this tap was installed, several households had
to walk about 100 meters to collect water from an old
well near the river. The well was in poor condition,
and the path was often muddy and unsafe, especially
during the rainy season. Carrying heavy containers
made the journey difficult, and the water was not
always clean.
With the installation of this tap, more than 35 people
now have safe and easy access to water for daily
needs. It has improved hygiene, reduced illness, and
eased the burden of collecting water.
Overall, this project has made a meaningful
difference in the community’s daily life. Thank you to
Quenched for making this possible.

MEET THE RECIPIENTS
A new well in Pandubi village, located in the Siraha
District of southern Nepal, marks a meaningful
milestone for the community. The village is home to
families from the Yadav, Paswan, and Mahato
communities, most of whom face financial hardship.
Access to clean drinking water has been a major challenge.
Before this well was installed, existing wells provided
unsafe water with a strong odor, forcing many families
to travel long distances. Some households relied on
neighbors for water, which sometimes led to tension.
With support from Quenched, a new well was installed
in a central, accessible location. It now provides clean,
safe water for daily use and serves as a shared resource
for the community, reducing both the burden of travel
and conflicts between neighbors.
Today, more than 115 people benefit from this well.
Access to clean water close to home has significantly
improved daily life. Thank you to Quenched for making
this possible.

MEET THE RECIPIENTS
A well has been installed in Mahanaur Tole, Siraha
District, in southern Nepal. This area is home to a
marginalized community, mainly made up of Musahar,
Paswan, and other low-income families who struggle to
meet basic needs, including access to safe drinking
water.
Before the well, eight households had no nearby water
source and depended on others. The nearest water
point was about 250 meters away, requiring multiple
daily trips and often leading to long waits or unkind
treatment.
Since Quenched installed the well, there has been a
significant improvement. These families now have easy
access to clean water, saving time and reducing their
daily burden. Others in the community also benefit
when needed.
The well has strengthened unity, as people now gather,
connect, and support one another. It has also created
opportunities to share the Gospel—one woman has
accepted Christ, and others are open to learning more.
This well is meeting both physical and spiritual needs,
bringing lasting impact to the community.

MEET THE RECIPIENTS
A new well has been installed in Beli Tole, Siraha
District, where most residents are from Musahar
families. Many in this community are very poor and
did not have their own water sources, so they relied
on neighbors for their daily needs.
Before the well was installed, about five households
struggled greatly to access water. They had to walk
around 150 meters each time they needed water,
carrying heavy containers back and forth. This was
especially difficult for women, children, and the
elderly, particularly during the hot summer months
or the rainy season.
The difficulty was not only the distance. Neighbors
were not always welcoming—people were often
scolded, made to wait for long periods, or denied
water at certain times. Collecting enough water for
drinking, cooking, and washing was exhausting, and
children sometimes missed school to help their
families.

MEET THE RECIPIENTS
My name is Raso Majhi. This well is installed in Musahari
Tole, Birta village, in the Sarlahi district of southern
Nepal. Most families here have very limited financial
resources, and access to clean water has been a major
challenge.
Our previous wells were shallow, under 100 feet, and
produced yellow, foul-smelling water due to high iron
content, which affected our health. Many people were
often sick, yet we had no choice but to use it. Only one or
two wells provided somewhat clean water.
We learned clean water could be found at around 180
feet, but drilling that deep was too expensive for daily
wage laborers. Our request to the local ward was denied
due to lack of budget, and some families had no well at
all.
Finally, we approached the church for help. With the
community’s agreement, this well was installed along the
roadside for everyone to access.
Today, more than 235 people benefit from this 184-foot-
deep well, which now provides clean water close to home.
It has brought new hope and ended our long
struggle. On behalf of our community, we sincerely thank the
Quenched team and the church for their support.
