MEET THE RECIPIENTS

The Musahar community in Sonapur, Udayapur District has suffered for many years without clean and reliable drinking water. Around 90 people live in this poor settlement and depended on unsafe, shallow wells or private wells owned by other households. Access was often denied, creating daily hardship for families without their own water source.

The Musahar are one of the most marginalized Dalit groups in Nepal, and most adults survive on unstable daily wage labor. This new well directly benefits about 25–30 people from five households, with nearby families also using it at times. A trusted local resident has been appointed as caretaker.

Before the well was installed, families walked 400–500 meters each day for water, waited in long lines, and sometimes faced disputes or refusal from private well owners. Women and children spent hours collecting water, losing time for school and household duties. Men often lost work hours, and many families experienced frequent illnesses such as stomach infections, forcing them to seek medical care they could not afford.

Now, clean drinking water is available within minutes of the settlement. Families will save time and energy, health conditions are expected to improve, and conflicts over water access will decrease. Children will attend school more regularly, and the community will become cleaner, safer, and more peaceful.

One woman shared that she used to walk nearly 500 meters each morning and often waited over an hour, sometimes being scolded or refused water. Now she can collect water quickly and with dignity, giving her more time to care for her children and support their studies. Her family is healthier, and she says she finally feels relief, dignity, and hope.

The well has also opened the door for the gospel in the community. As people gather water, they meet local believers and hear messages of hope. While no one has fully accepted the faith yet, several people now attend church occasionally and ask questions, laying a foundation for future spiritual growth. In conclusion, the new well has transformed life in Sonapur by providing clean water, reducing hardship and sickness, strengthening peace, and restoring dignity to a community that has long been marginalized.

MEET THE RECIPIENTS

A new well has been installed in Bhalwahi Village, Udaypur District, East Nepal, where people from mixed groups live together in one community. The economic conditions in this village are very poor, and most residents depend on labor work and farming to provide for their families. The village is densely populated, but many households do not have their own wells, making access to clean and reliable water a constant struggle.

Before the new well was installed, families without a water source had to depend on private wells owned by others. However, these wells were small and could not meet the needs of the many people living in the village. Getting enough water for daily use—such as washing, bathing, and cleaning—was difficult and often stressful. In addition, some well owners would not allow others to collect water at night, which made the problem even worse. Many families were forced to wait until morning to collect water, and even then, it was not always easy to get the amount they needed.

Because water was limited and not easily accessible, maintaining hygiene and cleanliness was a serious challenge.

Families often struggled to wash clothing, keep their homes clean, and care for their personal hygiene. The lack of water also affected visitors and farmers who came through the village, as they had little to no access to clean drinking water. The community’s need for a reliable water source was clear. Without consistent access to water, daily life became much more difficult, and families were forced to live with ongoing hardship. Recognizing these challenges, Quenched decided to help by installing a well in the village.

This new well has greatly improved life for the community. Now, more than 40 people who previously had no access to their own well can collect clean water every day. In addition, more than 30 others, including visitors and farmers, also benefit from this water source. Daily tasks are now easier, hygiene has improved, and families feel a sense of relief and hope knowing clean water is available when they need it. This project is a powerful reminder of how something as simple as a well can change lives—improving health, restoring dignity, and helping a community thrive. Thank you, Quenched!

MEET THE RECIPIENTS

The well installed by Quenched in Jogidaha, a village in Udayapur District, has been a life-changing blessing for the community, especially for the Tharu families living there. Many villagers live in poverty and have struggled for years to access clean drinking water.

Jogidaha is densely populated, and many families do not have private wells. Instead, they relied on distant wells or wells already being used by others. This often meant long walks to fetch water, and even then the wells were sometimes overcrowded or not working. These daily shortages made it difficult to bathe, wash clothes, and keep homes clean, and the constant demand often led to tension within the community.

Since the new well was installed, life has improved greatly. Now, more than 60 people benefit from this well, including local families and visitors. The well has brought relief, improved hygiene, and helped restore peace.

Another meaningful impact is that it has opened doors for sharing the gospel. Many people have listened with open hearts, and several have shown interest in learning more. This well has become a source of both physical and spiritual refreshment in Jogidaha.

The community is deeply grateful to Quenched and hopeful this partnership will continue to bring positive change in the future.

My name is Ram Deepak Chaudhary, and I live in this village. I want to share how Quenched has brought new hope to our lives. Before the well was installed, my family had no choice but to rely on a private well located about 70 meters away.

We were forced to use that well because there was no other option. However, the owner did not like us coming to collect water. They had built a fence with a gate, and every time we needed water, we had to call them and ask for permission. Many times, no one was home, and we were left with no choice but to search for another water source or buy water at a high price.

It felt like we were trapped—unable to get water when we needed it most. Our financial situation was very poor, and we could not afford to install a well ourselves. We felt helpless, as if we had no control over such a basic need. But then Quenched came to help.

They saw our struggle and decided to install a well for our community. Now we can collect water anytime we need it, without waiting for permission or worrying about the cost.

We feel free, and the burden we carried for so long has been lifted. Quenched has truly made a difference in our lives, and we are deeply grateful for their support.

MEET THE RECIPIENTS

My name is Hari Saday, and I live in Kalabanjar village, Siraha district, in Mid-East Nepal. Most of us here belong to the Saday community. We come from low-income families and face many hardships because of our poor economic situation.

For years, one of our biggest struggles has been the lack of clean and reliable drinking water. Before the well was installed, collecting water was a daily challenge. Most families did not have their own wells, so we had to depend on private well owners. Many of them refused to share water with us. When we asked, they would shout at us and sometimes deny us water even when their wells were full. It became so difficult that children were often too scared to ask, because they knew they might be yelled at or turned away.

Because of the shortage, even simple tasks like washing, bathing, cooking, and cleaning were extremely hard. The small amount of water we could collect was often dirty, but we had no choice but to use it. Many days we waited for hours or walked long distances just to find water, and even then we were never sure we would get enough.

We asked the government for help many times, but no one listened. It felt like nobody cared about our community. We knew we could not continue living with unsafe and unreliable water. Having clean water was not just about comfort—it was about survival.

Then Quenched came and installed a well, and everything changed. Now we have a clean and reliable water source that we can use whenever we need it. More than 50 people benefit from it every day, and families no longer fight over water. The well is located near the road in a public area, so visitors and farmers also benefit from it. Children are no longer afraid to ask for water. We don’t have to walk for miles anymore, and we no longer have to use dirty water that could make us sick.

This well has brought peace back to our community, restored dignity, and given us hope for a better future. I am deeply thankful to Quenched for their help. This well was not a luxury—it was something we desperately needed. It has brought better health, relief, and a brighter future for our families.
